Domestic Violence Unit

The Domestic Violence Unit is a specialized support unit within the criminal division. The objectives of the Prosecuting Attorney's Office are to maximize safety for victims while eliminating community tolerance of domestic violence and to hold offenders accountable while ensuring fair and equitable treatment in the criminal justice system for those affected by domestic violence and abuse.

Assistant Prosecutor & Victim Advocate

To facilitate our objectives, the Domestic Violence Unit employs an Assistant Prosecutor and a Victim Advocate, who focus exclusively on cases involving domestic violence. The Assistant Prosecutor administers all domestic violence cases and coordinates the district court dockets with the criminal division prosecutors, who handle the weekly dedicated domestic violence dockets. Victim Advocates are available for any victim requesting services or needing assistance. A Victim Advocate is present during court appearances to assist the victim and witnesses with concerns related to the court proceedings. The domestic violence unit works closely with victims, police agencies, probation agents, and service providers.
