OFFICE OF THE ADMINISTRATOR
Week of August 21, 2023
Greetings Washtenaw,
I hope that you all are having a restful summer season. As families gear up for the "Back to School" season, I wish parents, caregivers, teachers, and students a successful start to the 2023-2024 school year.
On August 18th Administration hosted our inaugural "Downtown Cookout". Nearly 200 employees and friends to Washtenaw County joined us for food, music, raffles, and fun! Take a look at pictures below. You may see some familiar faces.
There have been lots of changes in County Administration over the summer! I am pleased to announce that we have filled several key positions.
- Terrence Williams has joined the team as my new Executive Assistant.
- Guillermo Hernandez has been hired as our new Executive Director of Human Resources.
- Andrew DeLeeuw is our new Deputy County Administrator.
In the coming weeks, I will take some time to interview each of them and introduce them to you here. I will also take the opportunity to introduce you all to key partners who are working to build community in Washtenaw County, so, stay tuned!
Until next time...
Best,
-
Andrew DeLeeuw

What is a County Administrator?
(From the National Association of Counties (NACO)
"Counties are responsible for providing core services such as human services, criminal justice, public welfare and infrastructure, to communities of all sizes across America. Counties are able to provide a vast array of services through the work of 3.3 million employees.
To help with the increasing complexity of county activities and the range of responsibilities, many county boards appoint county administrators... Most often, county administrators implement the board’s policy, run the daily operations of the county and prepare the annual budget. "
Updated Structure of County Administration
In December of 2022, the Board of Commissioners approved a restructuring of County Administration (Res. # 22-251). The goals and priorities of the restructuring are as follows:
1. To increase capacity for the office to engage and respond to County departments.
2. To streamline existing responsibilities for several members of the existing county leadership team.
3. To ensure the sustainability and resilience of County administration by improving service delivery in accordance with our organizational values.
