Veteran ID Cards are available by appointment

COVID-19 Clerk/Register Operating Plan

The Clerk/Register’s office is available to the public in-person by appointment, only, in order to allow us to serve the public while carefully adhering to social distancing guidelines designed to protect the health of the public and staff.

For more information or to make an appointment at the Vital Records Division, contact: (734) 222-6720 or [email protected].

Veteran Identification cards are issued by the Vital Records Office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at:

200 N. Main Street
Ann Arbor, MI 48107

To Apply

The Veteran photo identification (ID) card is available to Washtenaw County residents, only.

Appear in-person at the Vital Records office and provide:

  • Original Military Discharge Papers such as DD-214 (unless currently on file with our office) - must show Honorable Discharge or equivalent status
  • Photo Identification (such as Michigan Driver’s license or State ID card)
  • $10 fee - Cash, check, credit (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, only), debit

Many businesses offer Veterans a discount as a way to express gratitude for their service to our country. However, the Veteran must be able to show proof. Veterans are given military discharge certificates, or "DD-214" forms. These are very large forms that do not fit in their wallet and can easily be lost.

A Veteran ID Card is an easy-to-carry proof of service in the armed forces.
