- MyFreeTaxes.com is a free self-filing tool thanks to a partnership between United Way and the IRS
- Seniors can contact the University of Michigan Housing Bureau for Seniors at 734-998-9339 to schedule an appointment
- Households with annual income less than $57,000 should contact United Way of Washtenaw County for assistance. Call 2-1-1 or 866-698-9435 to schedule an appointment.
Homestead Property Tax Credit
This credit (up to $1,500) is available from the State for qualifying taxpayers that can be used to help pay property taxes. Even if you are not required to file income taxes, you may still be eligible for this credit. Any of the agencies above can help you file.
Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
This is a benefit for working people with low to moderate income. To qualify, you must meet certain requirements and file a tax return, even if you do not owe any tax or are not required to file. EITC reduces the amount of tax you owe and may give you a refund. The IRS has a tool you can use to check eligibility.
