County Clean-Up Days

The Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office and Board of Public Works, as well as several community partners, sponsor multiple Clean-Up Days each year for Washtenaw County residents. These events are held in various locations throughout Washtenaw County to provide residents with opportunities to dispose of and recycle many household items in a safe and sustainable manner.

This is a service for Washtenaw County residents only. We can't accept materials from businesses, government agencies, non-profits, or other organizations. Please contact us for referrals to manage non-residential waste.

2022 Clean-Up Day Schedule

Please check back in Spring 2022 for new dates and locations! Meanwhile, view the "other disposal or recycling options" section, below, or contact us for assistance in finding other disposal locations for your materials.

Accepted Items

While our Clean-Up Days accept mostly the same items, there can be differences between events. Check the event flyer of the event you plan to attend to confirm your items are accepted.

For any questions or clarifications, call our hotline at (734)222-3950.

Typically Accepted Items Include:

  • Appliances (some events accept freon-containing appliances - check flyers to confirm)
  • Bulky Waste (mattresses, furniture, scrap wood, etc.)
  • Electronics (televisions, computers, audio and video equipment, etc.)
  • Household Hazardous Waste (click for a detailed list of accepted items)
  • Scrap Metal
  • Tires

We strive to work with vendors that put materials to their highest and best use and use responsible recycling practices.

Packing Tips

Make your trip smoother and help the event be more efficient by packing vehicles strategically based on the event map in each event flyer. Pack vehicles so the materials most easily reachable are those to be unloaded first by referencing the flow of traffic in the map of the event you plan to attend. Event maps can be found in the flyers above.

Make a Contribution

These events are FREE! However, there is a suggested $15 donation per car to assist in disposal costs and maintain these community events. Residents may bring up to four tires for free; a $5 donation is suggested for each additional tire. Residents can also bring one television, appliance or computer, but a $10 donation is suggested for each additional item.

Cash and check donations are accepted at the Clean-Up Days at the event's check-in station. Make checks out to Washtenaw County.

We rely on the help of volunteers to run a smooth event for the community! Volunteers primarily help direct traffic and unload materials from resident cars. We provide volunteers with a t-shirt, snacks, drinks, and a lunch. Click here to sign up to volunteer.
