The State of Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (formerly MDEQ) awarded this grant from the Clean Michigan Initiative Bond to Washtenaw County to mitigate groundwater contamination impacting downstream properties and the Huron River. The primary grant-funded remediation activities took place in 2019, and as part of those activities the developer installed a Permeable Reactive Barrier, which will be reimbursed through Tax Increment financing.  Ongoing monitoring will take place to determine overall effectiveness of treatment methods and assess need for additional mitigation. The project will take four to five years for fully build out.
