STATUS: Regular, Full-Time
SALARY RANGE: $40,717.56 - $48,680.32 ($53,548.35 including longevity pay)
LOCATION: 2201 Hogback Rd.


This position supports deputies, corrections officers and other Sheriff’s Office operations in the performance of their various duties by relieving them of routine organizational duties, allowing them to increase the amount of time spent on enforcement, prevention and inmate management activities. They respond to requests for service when such requests are of a minor nature, and are not emergencies, do not require use of force or arrest authority, and do not otherwise require the expertise and training of a sworn Deputy Sheriff or Correction Officer. 


  • Performs detailed, varied and responsible office support work, which may require the exercise of independent judgment and the application of knowledge related to the department to which assigned. 
  • Must skillfully interact with the public utilizing good interpersonal communications techniques. 
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work, including the public, other agencies, and County staff. 
  • Provides information and assistance to citizens, answers telephones, takes reports, completes gun registrations or other permits, takes fingerprints, files paperwork or prepares other documents as necessary, picking up and delivering mail. 
  • May be assigned to transport vehicles, or paperwork between stations or to and from other locations. 
  • Directs traffic and issues parking tickets. 
  • Canvasses neighborhoods for crime leads, as well as assisting in crime prevention activities as assigned. 
  • Handles animal control requests, including picking up and transporting stray animals, completing animal bite reports, and issuing citations for violation of related law. 
  • Completes initial booking inquiries regarding inmates’ personal information including, basic personal history, financial status, current mental and physical health status, and utilize screening instruments to identify inmate risk and needs. 
  • Coordinates and oversees inmate visitation by assisting citizens with system registration and general oversight and monitoring of video visitation. •Responds to a variety of customer calls by telephone regarding business-related issues such as inmate information, billing and court procedures. 
  • Accepts and processes forms, verifies for completeness, may accept payments and provide an appropriate receipt. 
  • Organizes and maintains various files; locates information as required for the work of the department; tracks the issuance of official documents; may purge files and/or prepare information for long-term storage. 
  • Researches and assembles information from a variety of sources for the completion of forms or the preparation of reports; may make arithmetic, statistical or payroll calculations. 
  • Enters and retrieves data and prepares reports using an on-line or personal computer system; may operate and maintain databases or other automated files and systems. Maintains confidentiality of data processed. 
  • Prepares correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents from drafts, notes, dictated tapes, or brief instructions using a typewriter or word processor; may compose standard correspondence independently and have the ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instruction. 
  • May be called upon to assist the trustees in the performance of routine facility maintenance, such as emptying wastepaper baskets, shoveling snow from walkways or other general cleaning tasks. 
  • Duties necessary to facilitate the general operation of the Department and provide support for other employees. 
  • Assignments to other units, sections or divisions within the Department as needed for the overall good of the organization and its efficient operation. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to work at any designated work site. 
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test that screens for illegal controlled substances. 
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment data entry test. 
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation and psychological evaluation. 
  • Must meet qualifications to be a Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) operator. 


The Sheriff’s Office is a seven (7) day per week, twenty-four (24) hour per day public safety operation. Work schedules will vary and include nights, weekends, holidays and unanticipated overtime. The position involves work in law enforcement, corrections and public safety settings. Areas of assignments may change periodically or with limited notice depending upon the overall need and good of the Sheriff’s Office. 


Duties require a basic level of physical fitness, general health and mobility including but not limited to the ability to run, lift, and carry or move reasonable weight and objects for reasonable distances. Ability to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment and technology including by way of example but not limited to computers, copiers, and calculators. Vision, normal or corrected, must include the ability to read from printed materials and a VDT screen. Hearing and speech must be sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.

Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent. Basic or advanced technical training, coursework, or certificates related to the job are desirable. Various combinations of education and experience which could provide an equivalent level of knowledge and skills to perform the job will be considered. 


A variety of combinations of experience which could provide knowledge, skills, and abilities which support the performance of the job will be considered. Experience working in a criminal justice setting, government organization, the public, elected officials and community groups is desirable.
