Community Science

citizen science banner

What does it mean to be a community scientist? A community scientist is a committed community member who has a desire to participate in scientific research and expand scientific knowledge. We are looking for dedicated volunteers to assist with our monitoring programs, and provide valuable data about the habitats and wildlife in our area. Volunteers not only make a local impact, but contribute to science on a wider scale.

Take a peek into the hidden world of cavity nesting birds. You’ll learn how to identify various species that use nest boxes, nest box etiquette, and how to collect data all while enjoying the thrill of young birds growing up. Volunteers will be required to visit their assigned location once a week to record observations between the months of March - August. Please note the average walking distance to visit all of the boxes at a location is approximately a mile. Some locations may be longer or shorter. Volunteers must also be comfortable walking off trail and through tall grass.
