Pool Policies
Lifeguards on deck have final authority over the pool.
User Policies
Children must be at least 13 years of age to be in the Recreation Center with out an adult present in the building!
- Adult = 16 and over
- Children 12 and under Policies:
- Children who are 5 and under, an adult must be in the water at all times.***
- Children who are 6 to 8 who cannot* swim, an adult must be in the water at all times.***
- Children who are 6 to 8 who can** swim, an adult must be in the pool area at all times.
- Children who are 9 to 12 who cannot* swim, an adult must be in the pool area at all times.
- Children who are 9 to 12 who can** swim, an adult must be in the building at all times.
- Patrons age 12 and over must pass the swim test to use the deep end of the pool.
- Patrons age 12 and over who require assistance to enter the pool must have an adult/care giver remain in the pool area at all times.
*Children who "cannot" swim simply means that they did not pass the deep end swim test, which consists of swimming one full length of the pool without stopping and immediately treading water for 60 seconds without stopping.
**Children who "can" swim are able to pass the deep end swim test.
***Adults required to be in the water may not swim laps until the child exits the pool or another adult takes over supervision.
Deep End Policies
- Children 12 and under must take the deep end swim test (one length of the pool without stopping followed immediately by treading water for 60 seconds).
- Non-test passing children must stay in shallow water where they can touch.
- Non-test passing children may go in the deep end with an adult present in the deep end at all times.
Open Swim Policies
- Adults may use the pool for various activities during open swim hours.
- Kickboards are not toys. They can only be used by open swim participants if they use them properly
- Due to COVID-19 we will not be supplying noodles or floats at this time. If you would like to bring your own you are more than welcome too.
- Depending on the number of users and their interest, either one or two lap lanes will remain available for lap swimming.
- No inflatables are permitted in the pool at any time.
- Swimmers can only use U.S. Coastguard approved life jackets. We have a small supply of life jackets that participants can borrow when swimming.
Lap Swim Policies
- Swimmers must be able to swim laps.
- Swim in the most appropriate lane. Lanes are marked according to speed (Slow or Fast).
- Lap swimmers have precedence in any lane during lap swim hours. Floaters may participate during lap swim times so long as there is room in the pool. Once the pool becomes crowded enough where lap swimmers will have to swim around a floater the floater must begin swimming laps or exit the pool.
- All 4 lanes will be set up during lap swim hours.
- Private swim lessons are permitted during lap swim hours facilitated by our staff.
- No toys will be out during lap swim.
- All 4 lanes will be set up for lap swim.

Swim Lesson Policies
- One parent will be allowed to watch swim classes from the pool deck. All others must watch from the observation window upstairs. This eliminates distraction from the lifeguards, swim instructors and children participating in the class.
- Exception - the first and last class of the session parents may watch children from the pool deck but may not interfere in any way with the class.
- No shoes on deck. Parents will be asked to remove their shoes before entering the pool area.
- Arrive 10 minutes early for class to allow for changing, bathroom usage and sign in.
- Do not change children in the pool area. Please use the locker rooms.
- Children 6 years and older need to use their gender appropriate locker room. If the parents are not comfortable with this, they may use the Universal locker room located upstairs.
- All participants are only allowed in the water during class time. To be courteous to the other participants, children must wait for the class to start before getting in the water and must exit the pool when their class is over.
- Meet children promptly at the end of class. Do not allow children to be unsupervised at any time before or after class.
