Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (EFSP) provides funding for local areas to supplement the work of social service organizations to help people in need of emergency assistance. 

Funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). 

EFSP Phase 31 funding is provided without discrimination of:

  • Marital Status
  • National Origin
  • Race
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • Sexual Orientation

Community Impact

This collaborative effort between the private and public sectors has disbursed more than $3 billion in federal funds during its 29-year history. In Washtenaw County, EFSP has helped nonprofit and faith-based organizations provide food and emergency shelter to persons in high-need areas throughout the County on a per diem basis. The year’s Phase 31 allocation is $105,566.
