NAPP Stewardship Technician
Seasonal Position (3-10 months)
$11.45-13.45/hr
If you are interested in working outdoors, consider a position with Washtenaw County’s Natural Areas Preservation Program (NAPP). NAPP employees preserve natural areas, develop and maintain trails and assist with general maintenance across 35 parks and preserves.

Job Description: Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, position involves a variety of tasks related to natural area preservation and general park maintenance. These activities can include but are not limited to: invasive species control; trail and fence construction, repair, and maintenance; trash and litter removal; grass, forbs, shrub, and tree care; wildlife management activities; and other restoration and maintenance activities on natural area sites and park locations. Controls invasive plants through mowing, cutting, spraying herbicides, and other techniques; may assist in hosting volunteer events. Constructs and maintains trails, preserve entry, kiosk, and signage. Reports to NAPP Field Crew Leaders and Stewardship Manager.
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year related work experience or education involving natural areas restoration. Knowledge of forest ecology, invasive species identification and control, or other related fields is desirable.
Requirements: Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. The work is primarily outdoors. Employees must be capable of hiking, lifting, and assisting to a variety of physical tasks. To maintain safe conditions during the COVID pandemic, we are requiring employees have their own vehicle to travel to job locations. Mileage reimbursed for all work travel.

PLAYGROUND SITE COORDINATOR
Seasonal Position (3-6 months)
$15.50/hr

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, the Playground Site Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing and supervising a safe and fun day playground program. The coordinator should have general knowledge of group and tabletop games, crafts, outdoor games and first aid. The coordinator will supervise four playground leaders, oversee the free lunch program and be available to respond to parents’ questions, comments or concerns. They must be able to implement safe play practices, manage age-appropriate levels of play and competition, and encourage cooperation and fair play among participants. The coordinator delegates responsibility for set up, take down, inventory of equipment, and records activity and program participation.
EDUCATION: College course work preferred in Social Work and Early Childhood Education.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two (2) years demonstrated experience supervising children of diverse backgrounds, preferably ages 5-11.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to and from the work site. Upon hire, CPR and First Aid certification is required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be 21 years of age or older and have a minimum of 4 weeks of full-time administrative experience in an organized playground or similar program. Employee will be subject to a background check upon hire.
OTHER: Applicants must be available to attend pre-program training sessions; also, able to work the full 8 week camp season M-TH June 21st to August 12th.

PLAYGROUND ACTIVITY LEADER
Seasonal Position (3-6 months)
$12.50/hr

Activity Leaders are responsible for implementing safe play practices, and for managing age-appropriate levels of fair play and competition. Responsible for set up, take down and inventory of equipment, maintaining records of activity and program participation.
EDUCATION: College course work preferred in Social Work and Early Childhood Education.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one (1) year combined experience supervising, coaching and/or teaching children of diverse backgrounds, especially 1st -5th graders.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to and from the work site. Upon hire, CPR and First Aid certification is required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have a positive attitude, enjoy working with children in an outdoor setting, have plenty of enthusiasm, good problem-solving skills, and ability to work with fellow counselors and parents. Employee will be subject to a background check upon hire.
OTHER: Applicants must be available to attend pre-program training sessions; also, able to work the full 8 week camp season M-TH June 21st to August 12th.
