[ARCHIVED] Pierce Lake Golf Course to Close Back Nine

Aerial of the Rolling Hills Waterpark

ANN ARBOR, MI – August 25, 2020, Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission is announcing that Pierce Lake Golf Course will be closing their back nine holes in order to repave all the cart paths on the golf course from September 14 to the end of the golf season in mid-October. This project was bid and accepted for completion this spring after the season had started.

This will be a large and complex project that will have the back nine holes (10-18) closed to play from September 14 thru at least October 9 with the possibility of longer closure depending on weather delays. The front nine holes will be open through construction, however the back nine must be closed to play, as it is impossible to get carts past the bridge crossings as the contractors are working.

Discounts will be offered for golfers that would like to play two rounds of the front nine holes. It is unfortunate that we have to close the back nine at the end of the season, but ultimately the upgrades to the facility will enhance the golfers experience at the course, and we pride ourselves in the maintenance of our course,” said Brian Klender, Pierce Lake Golf Course Superintendent.

In the last few years, Pierce Lake Golf Course has undergone several major projects to enhance the course and golfers experience. This year alone, the course has installed a new pump station to meet the irrigation demand of the course and improve energy efficiency, as well as upgraded to a new fleet of lithium battery golf carts. “I am excited every day to work for an organization that has a long-term vision to maintain the high quality of their parks. The public should see a major difference when they play our course for years to come,” said Klender.

In 2018, Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission used a private company, the ETC Institute, to professionally survey county residents. “One of the main take-aways from that survey was that residents want us to invest in our facilities, to upgrade and provide quality services to the public. That is what we are doing, and will continue to do,” said Coy Vaughn, Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission Director.

The reopening date will be announced and shared on the Pierce Lake Golf Course and Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission social media pages when construction has been completed.
