COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are surging in Washtenaw County. More than 100 new cases of COVID-19 are being reported every day. In the past two weeks, we have had a total of 1,010 confirmed cases in Washtenaw County. For context, that is more than double the confirmed cases reported in our two week report at the end of September. Most of the current cases are not U-M students.
Each of those cases comes with multiple close contacts, meaning our staff is making hundreds of calls each day to inform close contacts that they may have been exposed. This volume of cases means that despite our staff working as hard as we can, we are not able to investigate or notify close contacts as quickly as we'd like. If you’ve been exposed, you might not get a call from us right away.
This is why we need everyone's help to follow isolation and quarantine precautions! If you test positive for COVID-19 or have been exposed, follow these guidelines to help prevent spreading COVID-19 to others.
Remember:
- You cannot test out of quarantine if you have been exposed. Continue to quarantine for a full 14 days, even if you test negative during that time. The virus can take up to 14 days to make you ill.
- Don’t wait for a call from us to follow public health guidance. Isolate if you have symptoms or test positive. Quarantine if you are exposed.
Resources:
- We have many other COVID-19 health education materials available on our website (some are available in several languages). If possible, please check for information here before contacting WCHD staff with questions and help us share these materials widely.
- Information on community COVID-19 testing can be found here.
- Information on reporting a COVID-19 complaint or concern can be found here.
- Our county’s most recent COVID-19 case data can be found here.
We want to thank our incredible WCHD contact tracers and case investigators, as well as everyone who is working hard in our community to protect others!
