The
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course teaches people to give “first aid” to those individuals experiencing a mental health crisis and/or who are in the early stages of a mental health disorder.
Attend these two half day MHFA sessions and leave with a five-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect to professional care.

This 8 hour training will help participants learn the signs and symptoms of the most common mental health problems, where to get help, and what type of help has been shown to be most effective.
The mental health problems covered include:
- Depression
- Anxiety disorders
- Schizophrenia
- Bipolar disorder
- Eating disorders
- Substance use disorders
- Self-injury
Crisis situations covered include suicidal behaviors, acute reaction after a trauma, panic attack, acute psychotic behavior, and drug overdose.
Who is this training for? - This training is open to all non professional community members with interest, as well as Case Managers, Peer Support Specialists, Therapists, Physicians and Nurses, Educators and School Administrators, Faith Community members, First Responders, Consumers and their families.
Professional Development:
- Social Workers - Licensed social workers who provide a valid license number are eligible for 8 social work CEU hours upon completion.
- Educators - State Continuing Educational Clock Hours (SCECHs) are also available for Youth MHFA only. Please bring a valid PIC number and an additional check for $10 made out to the WISD.
