[ARCHIVED] Washtenaw County Health Department COVID-19 Vaccination Update

walk ins welcome covid vaccine

Actualización del proceso de vacunación contra el COVID-19 del Departamento de Salud: Los mapas de vacunación según tramo censal están ahora disponibles; próximamente múltiples oportunidades para obtener una vacuna contra el COVID-19

Washtenaw County Health Department is sharing census tract maps detailing who has received COVID-19 vaccinations in Washtenaw County. The data shows that Washtenaw County is making significant progress in vaccinating residents throughout the county. As of May 4, just over 60% of county residents 16 years old or older have received at least one vaccine dose and 47% have completed a full vaccine series.

COVID-19 vaccines make it safer to start doing some things we stopped doing because of the pandemic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) have confirmed vaccinated people can stop wearing masks in many situations and do not need to quarantine or get tested after possible exposure, as long as they do not have symptoms.

The Health Department continues providing vaccination opportunities through community pop-ups throughout the county as well as mass vaccination sites in Ypsilanti and Chelsea and Nurse on the Run home visits. Appointments can be scheduled here and walk-ups are welcome as supplies allow. Areas with lower vaccination rates are prioritized for vaccine pop-up clinics and outreach efforts. In most census tracts, at least 50% of residents 16+ have already received one dose of vaccine.

“Using census tract data helps us ensure we’re reaching all areas of the county in our vaccine distribution,” says Jimena Loveluck, MSW, Washtenaw County health officer. “We’re continually working to remove barriers to vaccination and make COVID-19 vaccines as accessible as possible.”

The census tract information can be found on the Health Department vaccine data page, and the maps will be updated weekly. Census tract maps are developed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the University of Michigan and are shared with their permission. Countywide vaccination data is pulled from the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR), and detailed Health Department data is from our electronic medical records.

COVID-19 vaccine opportunities

It is easier than ever to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Everyone 16 years old or older is eligible and can be vaccinated through the Health Department or other local vaccine providers, such as pharmacies and health care providers.

Additionally, the Pfizer vaccine is expected to be authorized for those 12-15 years old soon. The Health Department will open appointments at Pfizer clinics when this happens.

Online self-scheduling is open for multiple sites. Appointments are preferred but walk-ups are welcome during clinic hours as supplies allow. Anyone needing assistance with scheduling or locating a vaccine site can call the Health Department at 734-544-6700. Free transportation is available to help people get to vaccination sites.
