June 5, 2021

 

Ann Arbor, MI – On Friday, June 18, 2021, Washtenaw County Administration will observe Juneteenth with a flag raising ceremony and short program. 

 

At their June 2nd meeting, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution recognizing the significance of Juneteenth and encouraging staff and residents to “…celebrate the freedom and humanity of Black Americans, reflect on the history, impact and continuing legacy of chattel slavery in the United States, honor those who were enslaved and acknowledge their profound economic and cultural contributions to our society.” 


The program will feature local youth, community members and faith leaders. Flag raising and ceremony will be held outdoors where social distancing will be enforced and masks required. 

 

What: 2021 Juneteenth Flag raising ceremony and program

 

When: Friday, June 18th at 9:00 am EST

 

Where: 220 N. Main Street, by flagpole

 

Who:  Washtenaw County administration, county commissioners and invited guests. 

Event is open to the public and will be immediately followed by a short reception in the lobby of the county administration building.
