[ARCHIVED] Juneteenth 2022: "Recognize. Restore. Celebrate."

2022 Juneteenth FlyerAll community members are formally invited to Washtenaw County’s 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration. This year’s theme is “Recognize. Restore. Celebrate”. Please consider joining County Administration and the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners along with community leaders, elected officials, and residents of Washtenaw County for a special Juneteenth flag raising ceremony and celebration:

Date: Friday, June 17, 2022

Time: 10:00 am

Location: Washtenaw County Learning Resource Center

4135 Washtenaw Ave. Ann Arbor, MI  (parking lot)

This special event is to recognize the importance of Juneteenth as the day that word of the Emancipation Proclamation reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas in 1865. As you may know, news of freedom reached these folks nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, meaning that many people remained enslaved in some areas of Confederate states until Union troops arrived to enforce the Proclamation.

We have planned for the raising of the Juneteenth Flag, along with speakers, entertainment,  refreshments, vendors and resource information.
