E2P2 Water Quality Protection Award Winner - Crossings of Ann Arbor Condominium Association
The Environmental Excellence Partnership Program (E2P2) recognizes leaders in environmental protection. Annual awards are given for notable efforts in water quality protection, waste reduction and recycling, and pollution prevention. Award winners have gone above and beyond to do what is best for the environment
This year, Crossings of Ann Arbor Condominium Association received a Water Quality Protection Award for protecting the health of our rivers by building rain gardens.
In 2019, the Crossings of Ann Arbor Condo Association joined Community Partners for Clean Streams and expressed interest in building rain gardens. Since their property is close to the Huron River, they wanted to capture as much rainwater as possible on their property before it could flow into the river.
With some funding from our mini-sponsorship program, the Crossings of Ann Arbor have built two rain gardens on their property. These rain gardens capture rainwater, let it soak into the ground, and let cleaner water filter out into the Huron River. These rain gardens also reduced puddling problems that were happening.
One way that the Crossings of Ann Arbor has gone above and beyond is by advocating for their existing landscaping company to build the rain gardens. The landscaping company wasn’t experienced in building rain gardens but the Crossings board wanted to give them the additional work to simplify long-term maintenance. This is a wonderful way to train new landscapers in how to build a rain garden and helps a new group of people become experts.
