E2P2 Waste Reduction and Recycling Award Winner- Emmanual Lutheran Church
The Environmental Excellence Partnership Program (E2P2) recognizes leaders in environmental protection. Annual awards are given for notable efforts in water quality protection, waste reduction and recycling, and pollution prevention. Award winners have gone above and beyond to do what is best for the environment
Emmanuel Lutheran Church joined Waste Knot and Community Partners for Clean Streams in 2020. Staff and volunteers from the church work to share information about County Clean-Up Days, the Home Toxics Center, and other public resources with residents. The church collects and distributes clothing and reusable medical supplies, which is a service to the community and allows for materials to be reused.
In addition, church members are leading a sponsorship on behalf of Be3 (Big-bodacious-bold) volunteers from the Washtenaw County Conference of Evangelical Lutheran Churches in America (ELCA). This will help to standardize and improve recycling collections and collect hard-to-recycle materials. Emmanuel Lutheran Church is organizing with a group of seven local participating congregations to reach nearly 2,000 residents.
Emmanuel Lutheran also practices recycling by:
- Recycling bulletins into notepads
- Collecting plastic bags and styrofoam for recycling
