E2P2 Leadership in Environmental Excellence Award Winner- Shannon Gibb-Randall
The Environmental Excellence Partnership Program (E2P2) recognizes leaders in environmental protection. Annual awards are given for notable efforts in water quality protection, waste reduction and recycling, and pollution prevention. Award winners have gone above and beyond to do what is best for the environment
Shannan Gibb-Randall is a landscape architect, principal, and owner of InSite Design Studio, Inc. This local company is a pioneer in creating sustainable landscapes. Shannan and her team work to use water on-site as a resource to protect the environment. They work to resolve the conflict between landscapes of brick and concrete and the natural environment. Their innovative designs aim to infiltrate water back into the ground and to improve water quality.
Shannon has a particular focus on plants of Southeast Michigan native species. She has brought to life living landscapes and designed spaces for human habitats and urban environments. These are critical spaces that make use of stormwater where it falls, which brings prairies, woods, and ponds to life just outside the front door. Some of these sites include Ann Arbor City Hall, Traverwood Library, 618 South Main, Eastern Michigan University family housing, Pittsfield Library, Stone School Road rain gardens, Kellogg Eye Center, and the Oudolf garden on Belle Isle.
In addition to her professional contributions, Shannan has found the time to be a contributor to the community. She has served in leadership positions with Wild Ones, the Ann Arbor Planning Commission, and the Ann Arbor Environmental Commission. Shannan has continued where she started by mentoring young landscape architects to build habitats for humans.
