In an effort to improve cyber
security awareness for the residents of Washtenaw County, the County’s Chief Information
Security Officer Gabe LeBlanc has modified his employee focused cyber security
training to benefit all members of the community. “It’s just the right thing to do’, states
LeBlanc, ‘I’ve been training our employees on the importance of cyber security
for a year now, and I felt it was time to expand that training to include our residents,
too.”
LeBlanc’s free, 1-hour program
has been tailored to reach the casual user of the internet and is intended to provide
tips that will help prevent users from falling prey to the common tricks used
by hackers to gain access to identity and/or financial information. “Cyber criminals are constantly adapting their
tactics to catch people off guard’, LeBlanc said, ‘so it is impossible for me
to cover every possible scenario folks may encounter. My goal is to raise awareness and help users
to think twice before clicking.”
