Portage Baseline Lake Levels to be Raised Beginning March 20th, 2020

ANN ARBOR Mich., March 16th, 2020: – The lake level at Portage and Baseline Lakes will be raised beginning Friday, March 20th, 2020 and will gradually continue until it reaches its normal legal level of 851.54 feet above sea level, estimated to be around Monday, March 30th, 2020 (conditions permitting), according to Evan Pratt, Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner.

Each winter the lake level is lowered to reduce ice and frost damage and erosion on the lake. Homeowners in the Portage and Baseline Lake areas are cautioned to prepare for the raising of the lake level, which is coordinated with opening of the MDNR boat launch facilities. Scott Miller, P.E., Deputy Water Resources Commissioner, will answer inquiries and can be reached at [email protected].

The mission of the Office of the Water Resources Commissioner is to provide for the health, safety and welfare of Washtenaw County citizens and the protection of surface water and the environment and to promote the long term environmental and economic sustainability of Washtenaw County by providing storm water management, flood control, development review and water quality programs.
